Tord Boontje

http://www.tordboontje.com/

Decorative, Laser cute quality pieces which are so unique to work, i almost can't get enough. I couldn't think or a more perfect person to also relate my essay research to than someone who plays with such a thin line between Textiles, Design and Art.

Using the world of fantasy, freedom and openness, creating such work is pleasing to the eye so simple but so affective. Believing that "modernism does not mean minimalism" This designer is someone i inspire to be like, have such a well know name in this industry. Tord's work was also very popular at the telling tales exhibition at the v&a no wonder why his work resembles all the fantasy and story telling there is to be told.

Craft:

N. an activity involving skill making things by hand. > (crafts) things made by hand > Skill in carrying out one's work. > the members of a skilled profession. 2 Cunning. 3 (pl same) a boat or ship. > an aircraft or spaceship.
V. Exercise skill in making (something.)

I have looked up the Definition of Crafts because i think its important to know where textiles and creating things came from. Craft is not only a tradition or a family culture but its where we learnt the art of sewing, knitting, weaving, building, ceramics, carpentry...etc these were all originated from the word craft.

From the Concise Oxford Dictionary 10th edition revised 2001.

Sir John Soane

Sir John Soane an architect from 1837 when he has established a well known name for himself. Lives just around the corner from Holborn station in central London. His house has been turned into a museum of collectors pieces which he has collected and exhibited in and around his home. The house itself was designed by him and the works inside also, it was created in the London run for students and artists to inspire & learn from.

I suppose that's exactly what it was. It was a very interesting take on a house which someone could live in but also exhibit in. His work is very detailed and creative a lot of stone work in his house which unique to his style. As having grown up with an architect as a father myself I have learnt a lot of things, Weirdly enough they all seem to have the same hand writing, as strange as that sounds. It would be interesting if my dad took our house into a museum for his work, not something i think I would like, as I like a home to be somewhere comfortable to relax in. If i was living with Sir John Soane I would always be at ease because i'm quite clumsy. It was an experience and something to learn from having all your work up and around you, knowing that its helping other people who have the same desire and passion as yourself.

This is a very brief inscription of my trip, but summed up it was grand, cluttered, sculptured and very Greek goddess feel to it.

Object analysis research

Ok so i had my essay tutorial and i was advised to look into some theories and as my topic is all about how this new term of 'Design art' is becoming more and more common. So i looked into some blog articles where people have discusses and researched it. It was really interesting to read through other people's opinions and views on the topic between Art and Design.

so i found this one article http://www.webdesignerdepot.com/2009/09/the-difference-between-art-and-design/ which was really informative and interesting altogether.

Telling Tales Exhibition.
A lot of in my initial inspiration for the analysis of Marcel Wanders 'Crochet Chair' came from the telling tales exhibition at the v&a because it's transcribing so many different emotions, moods, political feelings, morals, stories and fantasy's all through the medium of design.
